world trade center volunteers
Shortly after the September 11, 2001 tragedy, the New Jersey State P.B.A. Special Services Foundation provided its concession trailer to assist in the relief efforts. It was located at the Port Authority Police Forward Command Post. Port Authority Police Local 116 lost 31 heroes that tragic day. Locals from around the State provided volunteer teams to work 12 hour shifts providing 24 hour coverage. Officers were delivering food and drink to the police, fire, and construction crews working at "ground zero". P.B.A. 154, with the cooperation of Chief Craig Novick, provided 23 members and covered four 12 hour shifts. It was our honor to serve.

Fresh Kills Landfill
Over 30 of our members volunteered at the Fresh Kills landfill site. These officers volunteered on their days off, without compensation to assist in the gruesome task of sifting through the World Trade Center debris. The workers at Fresh Kills identified the remains of over 50 victims. In addition, hundreds of personal effects have been recovered helping the grieving families in the healing process.
